It’s Women’s History Month and who better to share a bit of wisdom than the moms of Praytell? Earlier this month, we sat down with a panel of moms from across the agency to learn how they have been navigating working from home, childcare and a pandemic over the past year. Their unfiltered takes on motherhood in today’s world shed a new kind of light on the unique challenges and triumphs experienced by this inspiring group of women.
From Praytell’s very own Women’s Employee Resource Group, Herizon, we’re happy to share some insight, advice and inspiration from some of the moms of Praytell.
“I’m really vigilant about blocking off my time on the calendar. Not enough parents do this. I block off after 5:30 PM because it’s time to unwind, it’s time for dinner...and I make that known to all of my accounts. Block off that time even if it's just 10 minutes.” - Jeannie Evanchan, Vice President
“When I wake up, I know something is probably not going to go as planned. It won’t be perfect. And as someone who grew up with perfectionist parents, becoming a mom has been a really wonderful thing for me. I’ve had to accept the imperfections of life, and instead, find the joy and humor in those imperfect, pen-on-the-wall moments!” - Beth Cleveland, President
“[Postpartum depression] hit me really hard and the pandemic added to it, not having family around and feeling isolated. I would urge everyone to speak up to their doctor...voice [your feelings] to your support system. If you broke your leg you wouldn’t suffer in silence, so why should we have to stay silent?”- Ali Pinckney, Office Manager
“Being a new mom, you have ups and downs and each day is different. You might focus on one issue that’s happening at a certain moment and get overwhelmed, but you have to just take it one day at a time.” - Yadira Garibay, Account Strategist
“When justifying the cost of child care, I like to think of it this way: It’s a large expense for the next 4 to 5 years, not the next 20 years. As a working mom, you are then investing in your long-term earning power and ability to stay in the field and grow in your profession.” - Jessica Yurasek, Senior Director
“I have felt SO LUCKY to be home with my kids. It’s exhausting and stressful, but when I can catch my breath, I know it’s beautiful.” - Syreeta Mussante, Executive Vice President
