As a group established just last summer, this year was the first time elevAsian was able to celebrate Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month as a community at Praytell. Amidst an especially challenging time for us in the U.S., we took this time to celebrate our diverse community and cultures with programming that reflected that depth and breadth.
From an Instagram Live with award-winning artist Rich Tu (where his extensive sneaker collection was an unexpectedly distracting hot topic!) to an internal AZN FILM CLUB curated by our own filmmaker Joanne Park, we closed out the month hosting the brilliant Omsom cofounders, Kim and Vanessa Pham, as they shared how they’ve built their brand while staying true to themselves.
Finally, our creative project for the month came to life in the form of AZN COOKZINE: a collection of memories, traditions (old and new), and of course food — a vital part of our cultures and identities, and a way we’ve always connected and cared about each other. With member-sourced recipes and original illustrations of family photographs, it’s a time capsule of what being Asian means in this moment for us and we’re happy to share it with you.
